COUNTING

Partly symphony of a city, partly film diary and partly personal essay - with Counting, Jem Cohen creates a vivid contemporary portrait.

About the event

In this edition of The Dream That Kicks we present Counting, Jem Cohen’s voiceless and gorgeously photographed drift through cities as various as New York, Moscow, Istanbul, Oporto, St. Petersburg and Sharjah. It unspools as a sort of manifesto in 15 elegant, enigmatic chapters on mortality, globalism, jetlag, personal loss and the clash between the built and natural environment.

Jem Cohen works with film as a material object, focusing on subject matter, pacing and sound design to create an overwhelmingly aesthetic experience.
