Kandis for Life

By Jesper Dalgaard
Wednesday 19.10.22

The Danish dance band Kandis has been around since 1989 and is led by the charismatic lead singer Johnny Hansen. The documentary Kandis for Life is an insight into the band's history, but perhaps primarily an encounter with the group's most loyal fans who do not know each other, but who all have the same deep dedication to the band.

The film won the award for best Nordic documentary at this year's Oslo Pix.

About the film

Kandis for Life is an entertaining, life confirming and touching documentary about a cohort of unusual Danes who finds comfort and meaning in life through their attachment to their idol, dance band star Kandis-Johnny.

This is not a classic music documentary where we are taken on the journey from the band's early beginnings to their life at the top of the dance band throne. It is an insight into a deeply involved fan culture and a frontman who has taken on the role of a saviour for his fans.
