Perfect Lives: An Opera for Television by Robert Ashley

Wednesday 10.09.25
Screen Grab The Bar 01 19 58 02

Don't miss a unique opportunity to see Robert Ashley's six-part TV opera! In collaboration with the contemporary music festival Ultima, we present Robert Ashley's groundbreaking television opera about bank robbery, cocktail lounges, geriatric love, adolescent elopement and much more in the American Midwest. This work is considered one of the defining text-sound compositions of the late 20th century and has been described as a comic opera about reincarnation.

Before the screening, there will be a conversation between Tom Pauwels, artistic director of Ictus Ensemble, music journalist Rob Young, and Ultima’s director Heloisa Amaral about the opera’s significance and legacy.

Friday, September 12, Ultima invites you to the concert experience Liquid Room XII – A Perfect Life, where Ashley's universe meets other unique musical expressions in a performance inspired by the same TV opera.
